3 reasons to visit Venice in winter and get your romantic portrait

Venice is gorgeous in spring when mild weather and the awakening nature makes every corner of the city smile at you, contributing to get excellent couple portraits and wedding photos. Venice is marvelous in summer when you can enjoy many hours of light and sun, have your meals served outdoor, and even relax and swim at Lido beach.

Nevertheless, Venice features a secret beauty in winter too, which is almost unknown by most tourists but well appreciated by all those who visited the city in this season. Here are a few reasons you should definitely enjoy Venice’s winter charm:

   Privacy: as most tourists visit Venice in summer you will be able to explore the city’s real daily life without many “competitors”. You might have the chance to enjoy a café in a desert Piazza San Marco and avoid crowds in front of museums, churches or on the ferry. If you are travelling with your sweetheart, this season is ideal for a romantic photo walk or an engagement photo session: you will enjoy much more privacy and feel like Venice is all at your disposal for intimate, intense couple photographs.

Winter light: Joseph Brodsky was fond of Venice in winter and described it in very poetic terms: “The sky is brisk blue, the sun, escaping its golden likeness beneath the foot of San Giorgio,sashays over the […] lagoon’s lapping ripples; […] The winter light in this city! […] As long as this city exists, as long as winter light shines upon it, Kodak shares are the best investment”.

   

   Indeed, the clear light of Venetian sunny days in winter is something really enchanting and exciting, and this special atmosphere makes colors more intense and couple portraits more romantic.

3. The sunny side of winter weather: Nobody canensure you that, by staying in Venice in winter, you won’t meet rain, fog or even high water.

   

   Even if this might be uncomfortable, try to make the most of it: first of all, remember that you are experiencing the “real Venice”, the city life as lead by its inhabitants.

   Beside, these conditions might be fine allies for creative, romantic couple photographs: the water in a puddle might mirror a passionate hug or the sky’s pink shade; the fog might turn a simple photo walk into a journey into a fairy land with the loving couple coming out from a cover of softened sounds, colors and edges; high water will show you a completely new face of Venice and give the chance for very creative, even funny, couple portraits.
