With more than 400 bridges connecting Venice’s islands, it’s no surprise that couples often ask: Which bridge is best for a surprise proposal?

The answer is—it depends on the feeling you’re looking for. Some bridges are iconic and dramatic, others are intimate and hidden. As a local photographer, I’ve explored almost every angle, and I’m always happy to help choose the perfect one.

Venetian bridges: the “top” ones

The Barefoot Bridge (Ponte degli Scalzi) is the first bridge you meet when reaching Venice by train. It offers a great view on the Canal Grande.

As a matter of fact Venice is made up of islands and bridges: about 435 bridges link 121 islands.
