How to get married in Milan: civil wedding at Palazzo Reale

A couple dressed in formal attire walks hand in hand down a city street, resembling a perfect engagement portrait. The woman is wearing a white dress and holding a bouquet, while the man is in a dark suit. Buildings and people are visible in the background, adding to the romantic atmosphere.

The Milan’s City Council offers a wonderful location for couples marrying in this city: the Sala degli Specchi hall in Palazzo Reale sports ancient chandeliers, tapestry and golden-framed mirrors.

Needless to say, Milan ranks well after Venice or Florence in the list of the Italian cities chosen by local and foreign couples for their wedding. However it is still a very beloved city since it offers many attractive spots as background for nice wedding photographs and one of its most beautiful palaces as the location for civil wedding ceremonies. High water in Venice: avoid it thanks to an app or enjoy it during a photo shooting!

A couple embraces and kisses in a cobblestone courtyard, their reflection shimmering in a large puddle. This romantic and serene scene, perfect for a wedding portrait, is set against a brick wall with arched windows and minimal scaffolding.
This Russian couple made the most of high water and enjoyed a special honeymoon photo shooting in Venice dancing and playing in the flooded Piazza San Marco.

High water is a common event in Venice, especially from October to December. But you can run into it (or rather… walk into it! ) even in springtime. It is mostly due to an unlucky combination of several factors, such as bad weather, tides, winds and artificial digging works which influence the water in the Venetian lagoon and allow the seawater to flood the city in a short while.

Churches and worship places in Venice: where, when, how and….how many?

Orthodox church in Venice hosting a wedding photo service
Venice hosts numerous worship places for different religions: here you see the Russian-Orthodox Church of San Giovanni Decollato

There are numerous worship places in Venice: when you walk along alleys and squares (for instance during an engagement, wedding or honeymoon photo service) you will pass by one of them every few minutes. The majority is made up of Catholic churches scattered among the boroughs (“sestieri”) of Venice and open at daytime, usually from 10.00 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Shooting a simple yet elegant wedding: less is more ..in the Italian Alps

couple hugging during wedding photo service in Trentino, Northern Italy
Ana and Federico chose a very simple yet elegant wedding which gave me the opportunity to shoot beautiful couple photographs

Last year I was hired by a young couple as the photographer of their wedding which was held in a small mountain village in the Trentino region in Northern Italy.

Well, the gorgeous landscape definitely played a key role for my shots of the wedding day, but this was just one of the reasons that helped me to offer Ana and Federico a nice wedding reportage.

The bride chose many elegant details for her outfit, hairstyle and make-up which enhanced her natural intense beauty.

The two of them chose a very intimate and simple style for this important day but many elegant details (including the bride’s dress, accessories and hairstyle, the picturesque mountain town where the banquet was held) made the whole event very beautiful and their spontaneous feelings ensured very intense and moving photographs to be shot with little effort on my side.

Intense feelings shined on the bride’s and groom’s faces during the wedding ceremony while elegant details decorated the church.

There were quite few participants for an Italian wedding, just a bunch of about 40 people, but sincere feelings made the relatives’ and friends’ faces glow or melt into tears, which ensured a genuine and joyful  atmosphere. An original touch was also provided by the priest who, being at the same time the bride’s brother, was sincerely moved.

The priest of this wedding was the bride’s sister which contributed to make the ceremony more intense with sincere feelings bursting out spontaneously

Therefore, even if this might sound rhetoric, I must say I was delighted to be in charge of Ana’s and Federico’s wedding reportage and enjoyed very much these simple yet perfect celebrations.
