Amazing Couple Portrait In Venice: How To Get The Most Intense Shots

One of the most common situation during a couple photo service is that the couple do not feel at ease posing in front of the camera. This is mostly due to the fact that they decided to have a photo portrait for their wedding, honeymoon, or holiday in Venice and this is perhaps their first photo shooting (or one of the first) in their life.

Beside, in most cases, they are not familiar with the photographer whom they just met that day and feel a bit uncomfortable about his presence, glances and work.

First of all, I propose to meet well before the photo session for an informal interview: while chatting in a café, we can get a bit more acquainted with each other and I can get important pieces of information about the couple’s wishes and personality.

I used this method with a young couple who lately hired me for a honeymoon photo service: Irina and Simon felt a bit uncomfortable, even nervous, in the beginning, which explains the lightly “stiff”,  almost awkward look of the first shots.

However, the photo walk had a very relaxing effect on them: they enjoyed Venice’s markets and small alleys where I even asked them to dance and jump and, eventually, the last shots managed to catch very intense, spontaneous glances and feelings.

At the end of our informal photo walk the young couple eventually felt at ease with my presence and work and I managed to get very intense shots.

An informal photo walk in Venice: exploring, shopping, playing

Venice offers thousands nice photo settings even in its less common areas, which might be used as background for beautiful couple photo portraits

When I am hired as a professional photographer for couple portraits in Venice, I usually propose my clients an informal photo walking tour in Venice. This gives them the chance to explore the city’s thousands alleys along small channels, its numerous bridges and hidden arcades, getting to know Venetian people’s daily life.

Olga and Dimitry, a young Russian couple, accepted the challenge and enjoyed their photo walking session in Venice very much: while heading for Ponte di Rialto and San Marco Square, we stopped in many less famous areas, exploring fruit and vegetables markets, visiting shops of postcards and Venetian traditional masks, and posing for a romantic kiss on a hidden bridge.

In order to get more dynamic and original shots of this young and nice couple I even had them jump or play-act a bit. Indeed, it was a very pleasant and exciting photo walking session for the couple and the photographer as well!

Photo Portraits in Venice: Shooting from Above

Shooting from above is a nice way to make wedding photo portraits more dynamic

In order to offer my clients original shots when they hire me as a photographer for wedding, honeymoon or couple portrait photo services in Venice, I often enjoy changing the perspective of my shots.

As already said in other posts, this might happen by chance thanks to the clients’ ideas, like the day a young Russian couple wanted to continue their informal photo shooting on a gondola.

In other cases I have to use all my creativity to find new ways to make the shots in some way different from the postcards’ ones and able to be appreciated by the clients.

One way I found out is shooting from above. This gives the picture a new perspective and allows me to focus on the subjects’ faces and expressions which in most cases show surprise and amusement.

This means I have to climb on the most wired structures to gain some height: stairs, bridges, buildings and even trees!

When I work as a portrait photographer in Venice I have my secret spots where climbing is not that difficult…just come to Venice and I will show them to you.

PHOTO PORTRAITS IN VENICE: RAIN AS AN ALLY RATHER THAN AN ENEMY

The mirroring effect in the puddles along the alleys might help the photographer to get nice photo portraits in Venice

In most cases, no matter where you are going to shoot your photo portraits, sun and fine weather are strategic allies to get beautiful shots.

This is of course true as for Venice. Sunny weather can help professional portrait photographers getting great shots making the most of light or focusing, for instance, on water and sunset.

Nevertheless, I experienced several cases where rainy days were also useful to get original and impressive shots. For instance, rainy days offer the photographer the chance to make the most of the rain puddles’ mirroring effect.

Beside, rainy weather adds a touch of romanticism to the city, which it is especially helpful for a couple portrait photographer hired for wedding and honeymoon photo services.
