“Elopement” photo service in Venice: shooting a simple, informal Greek wedding in Venice

Efi and Gianni chose to get married at the Greek Consulate of Venice and this was the occasion for intense, spontaneous wedding shots

Efi and Gianni’s wedding was really special: no relative was present, no friends, no make-up artist, no hair-stylist…just the two of them, the photographer in charge of their wedding photo reportage and the office employees at the Greek Consulate in Venice.

In some way the wedding reminded me of the “elopements” that used to take place in the past when couples had to get married far away from home to avoid objections from parents. Nowadays similar weddings do take place but are more like a kind of destination weddings, with couple performing the wedding rites in another place than home just to enjoy more privacy or get the most of a romantic environment.

The couple walked along Venetian alleys on their way to the Greek Consulate and I had the chance to shoot very intense romantic couple photographs.

Efi and Gianni just wanted an intimate, very informal wedding ceremony before attending a traditional marriage in Greece later on. The result was a very romantic and intense day both for the couple and for me, as I was chosen as their wedding photographer in this special day.

Spontaneity, simplicity and passion characterized each phase of this wedding. The preparation of the couple, for instance, took place in their hotel room without relatives or assistants, while using elegant and simple details that enhanced the atmosphere and the photographs I shot during this wedding photo service: Gianni’s bow tie, Efi’s pink dress and her make-up which was made in a make-up products store without spending a penny…

The wedding ceremony took place in the Greek consulate and the couple’s passion enhanced each shot of the wedding photo shooting.

The couple enjoyed many romantic and intense moments during the rest of the day: during an informal photo walk on their way to the Greek consulate, when they stopped to kiss and hug along the channels and on the public ferry boat; during the wedding civil ceremony when their joy and passion enlivened the cold atmosphere of an administrative office in the consulate; during the final walk in Venice when their relaxed mood allowed even more spontaneous and lively shots to be made. A simple great wedding….no match for any big fat Greek wedding!

Passion and joy enlightened this simple and informal wedding ceremony and allowed very intense shots to be made during the photo service.

Vow renewal photo shooting in Venice: not just a couple, but a family matter!

A vow renewal photo shooting often involves a couple and their children

I lately had the chance to shoot a vow renewal in Venice: an American couple chose the city as the right location to re-commits to their relationship and re-state their love for one another.

Our photo walk in Venice enclosed several stops in romantic spots for intense couple portraits

A couple shooting of this kind is in some way different from a wedding photo service: the couple has already experienced the wedding rituals some time in advance; they often choose a more intimate, simple ceremony and, just like in this case, they are not alone.

The Texan couple I shot was indeed accompanied by their 15-year-old boy which gave me the chance of portraying a family story.

A vows renewal photo shooting gives the photographer the chance to portray the relationship and feelings among parents and children.

Needless to say, during our informal photo walk in Venice, I made some couple photographs in highly romantic spots trying to fully express the couple’s deep feelings for one another. It was really exciting to see long-lasting and still intense love almost shining from their smiles and eyes!

The feelings between the bride and his son were also highlighted in this vows renewal photo shooting

Beside, I also focused my shots on the three people’s relationship as a family, portraying the mother-son and father-son behavior, as well as making some shots full of “family-flavor” with the three of them walking, hugging or even running together.

During this photo shooting I managed to catch very intense expressions and feelings in my photographs

As a professional wedding, honeymoon and engagement photographer, I always aim at catching people’s feeling and relations in my photo portraits. This vow renewal photo service gave me the opportunity to get intense shots which can work as nice souvenirs of important family moments.

The proper pair of shoes for a perfect photo shooting in Venice

During the vow renewal photo shooting I did lately, the bride decided to change her shoes to walk on with a more comfortable pair

Most of the tourists visiting Venice are well aware of it: to enjoy a nice tour of the city, you should not forget a pair of comfortable shoes. Since Venice is no place for cars, anyone visiting it is almost doomed to walk along many alleys and through lots of arcades, going up and down many bridges..till your feet are burning!

Now, when I am hired as a photographer for engagement, honeymoon or wedding photo services in Venice, more often than not I meet people enjoying an elegant attire, be it their wedding dress or just a very nice suite. They understand the shooting as the chance to portray a very special situation and want to look as charming as possible.

During a honeymoon photo service I did for a Russian couple, the lady only wore her elegant pair of shoes for the best shots

This the reason why I often happen to shoot couple with very elegant shoes which in most cases are not really the most comfortable ones. This especially true as for women, who enjoy wearing high heels and elegant shoes during their wedding, honeymoon photo shooting or even during a simple couple photo session in Venice.

A young Russian bride that hired me for a honeymoon photo portrait, only wore her elegant shoes for some special poses.

Moreover, I like to propose my customers an informal photo walking tour in Venice which let them discover some hidden spots in Venice and gives me the chance to make some spontaneous and lively photo portraits.  Therefore it is not so uncommon that during the photo shootings I make in Venice the lady decides to change the shoes, wearing the elegant ones only from time to time when there is a need of a very elegant look. It also happen to me that elegant shoes were removed and the lady, who had not taken with her another pair, just decided to walk barefoot in the high water.

It also happened to me to shoot a bride taking off her elegant shoes to save them from high water in Venice and walking on barefoot!

So, if you ever plan to have a nice walking photo shooting in Venice, do not forget to take comfortable shoes with you!

Pre-wedding photo session under the clouds: love shining despite the rain!

This prewedding photo session in Venice was successful even under unfavourable weather conditions

Edward and Ester are a young couple from China who hired me as a photographer for a prewedding session in Venice last November.

As you might well know, November is a time in the year where the city reveals its most real essence. Rain, clouds and grey skies endow the Venice with a special romantic charm….but you must be prepared to be able to appreciate this special atmosphere.

Before beginning our photo walk in Venice, the bride got ready with the help of an expert make-up artist in her hotel room.

I must say that Edward and Ester were brave enough to have their pre-wedding photo session in this period and greatly dealt with the fall weather which we were not able to avoid (unluckily enough, the day after the sun was shining over Venice). The results were satisfactory for all of us.

During our photo session we made the most of arcades as shelter from the rain!

They got dressed in their hotel suite where Ester also enjoyed a special make-up session with the help of the make-up expert Ilaria Giani. Ilaria even managed to meet all her requests which drew inspiration from Pinterest boards.

Then we went out for our informal photo walk, with the two of them wearing heavy coats between one shot and the other. They did not lose their good spirit and enjoyed playing with the bridal veil, kissing in the small Venetian alleys, hiding under the arcades, etc.

In the course of our photo walk we managed to take some romantic shots in different spots of Venice

They even plaid some jokes, which I dutifully caught in my shots, when we reached a white statue of a young naked boy at Punta della Dogana, one more piece of art most likely belonging to the Venice Biennale of Arts.

In order to warm them a bit, we stopped in a café where they enjoyed a real Italian cappuccino before we went back to the hotel. There they changed their clothes and wore gala suits to have a few more couple portraits in the magnificent lobby of their hotel.

The couple enjoyed a break in the photo walking tour to warm up a bit in a café with a real cappucino.

The final phase of our wedding photo session included a gondola tour at nighttime, which gave us the chance to make the most of the light and shadow effects on the Canal Grande.

After our photo walk, the couple changed their clothes to have some more shots in gala attire with Venice in the background.

At the end of our couple photo session, they were tired but happy: rain and clouds were not match for their shining love which was evident in all the photographs.

At the end of our wedding shooting the couple also enjoyed a gondola tour by night.
