Pre-wedding photo session under the clouds: love shining despite the rain!

This prewedding photo session in Venice was successful even under unfavourable weather conditions

Edward and Ester are a young couple from China who hired me as a photographer for a prewedding session in Venice last November.

As you might well know, November is a time in the year where the city reveals its most real essence. Rain, clouds and grey skies endow the Venice with a special romantic charm….but you must be prepared to be able to appreciate this special atmosphere.

Before beginning our photo walk in Venice, the bride got ready with the help of an expert make-up artist in her hotel room.

I must say that Edward and Ester were brave enough to have their pre-wedding photo session in this period and greatly dealt with the fall weather which we were not able to avoid (unluckily enough, the day after the sun was shining over Venice). The results were satisfactory for all of us.

During our photo session we made the most of arcades as shelter from the rain!

They got dressed in their hotel suite where Ester also enjoyed a special make-up session with the help of the make-up expert Ilaria Giani. Ilaria even managed to meet all her requests which drew inspiration from Pinterest boards.

Then we went out for our informal photo walk, with the two of them wearing heavy coats between one shot and the other. They did not lose their good spirit and enjoyed playing with the bridal veil, kissing in the small Venetian alleys, hiding under the arcades, etc.

In the course of our photo walk we managed to take some romantic shots in different spots of Venice

They even plaid some jokes, which I dutifully caught in my shots, when we reached a white statue of a young naked boy at Punta della Dogana, one more piece of art most likely belonging to the Venice Biennale of Arts.

In order to warm them a bit, we stopped in a café where they enjoyed a real Italian cappuccino before we went back to the hotel. There they changed their clothes and wore gala suits to have a few more couple portraits in the magnificent lobby of their hotel.

The couple enjoyed a break in the photo walking tour to warm up a bit in a café with a real cappucino.

The final phase of our wedding photo session included a gondola tour at nighttime, which gave us the chance to make the most of the light and shadow effects on the Canal Grande.

After our photo walk, the couple changed their clothes to have some more shots in gala attire with Venice in the background.

At the end of our couple photo session, they were tired but happy: rain and clouds were not match for their shining love which was evident in all the photographs.

A funny honeymoon photo portrait for a funny couple: dancing, posing, playing…

couple dancing in Rapallo during their honeymoon photo service
This young Russian couple enjoyed dancing in Rapallo’s streets which ensured a very lively honeymoon photo shooting

When I am hired a professional photographer to make couple portraits (being them wedding, engagement, or honeymoon photo services) I always try my best to catch the couple’s personality in my shots so that their real nature might be well represented in the pictures and the customers will be satisfied with the final results of the photo shooting.

Exploring and making the most of Rapallo’s landscape was very useful during this honeymoon photo service with a curious young Russian couple

Beside, I try to make the shooting as pleasant and exciting as possible, so that the couple can keep happy memories of the hours spent with me and my camera. Needless to say, couples are very different from  one another and I have to adapt to their personalities and special request to have an enjoyable photo service and beautiful portraits after that.

The couple enjoyed acting, posing and making jokes during their couple photo shooting.

The honeymoon photo shooting I lately did for a young Russian couple  in Rapallo (on the Ligurian coast in Western Italy) is a fine example of a nice honeymoon photo service: the couple had a lively and ironic attitude and did not refrain from playing jokes with each other, acting and posing in funny ways.

Jumping was also part of this funny honeymoon photo shooting!

That’s why, beside some romantic shots in the narrow alleys of Rapallo’s town centre or at seaside, we managed to make some funny and dynamic shots with the couple dancing, playing piano together, jumping, and gently mocking at each other, which ensured creative pictures to be taken and much fun for the couple and…the photographer himself!

What do I mean by “a perfect informal photo walk in Venice”?

Yulia’s and Pavel’s photo portrait as fine example for a photo walking session in Venice

Yulia and Pavel enjoyed a perfect photo walking tour in Venice.

Yulia and Pavel, a young Russian couple who hired me for a honeymoon photo shooting in Venice gave me the chance to enjoy a lively photo session which can well explain what I mean by “informal photo shooting”.

The couple enjoyed exploring Venice’s hidden spots while I was shooting original couple portraits

This is the kind of photo service I like to propose to most of my clients asking for a pre-wedding, destination wedding, honeymoon photo service, or just for a couple portrait in Venice. It basically means letting the couple careless strolling in the city, exploring its most hidden alleys, squares, perhaps relaxing for a while sitting on stairs or benches, resting in a café, or kissing under an arcade.

We also stopped in some romantic spots to make shots with more “classical” Venetian background

In the meanwhile I make the most of my camera, equipment and experience to get some high-quality shots of these moments without asking the couple to pose for most of the time we spend together. I let the couple discover by themselves and admire Venice’s different faces, sometime suggesting to have a look at my favorite secret spots or play with funny poses, like jumping o running towards each other.

Needless to say, we also stop in Venice’s most romantic spots to make some shots with “classical” backgrounds, like Rialto Bridge, San Marco Square or the Academia Bridge.

Rialto Bridge was also included in our photo walking tour.

Yulia and Pavel enjoyed their photo walking tour very much, let themselves be amazed by the city and spontaneously played with me and with each other: the result is a series of funny, informal and original shots, alongside some more “standard” couple portraits in Venice.

What about you? Are you ready for your own informal photo walk in Venice?

THE BRIDE AND A BLUE PIGEON: A COLOURED GUEST FOR A WEDDING PHOTO SHOOTING

I had the great pleasure to be hired as the wedding photographer by a Russian couple who got married in Venice according to the Russian orthodox rites.

After the ceremony was over we enjoyed an informal walking photo shooting along the Venetian alleys. We stopped at Piazza San Marco to make some pictures of the bride feeding the pigeons, which always crowd Venice’s main square…a very typical picture for tourists, you would say.

Well, when I sat down to select and work on the pictures, I realized that this was not the case. I happened to shoot a “special guest” a blue piegon, whose strange skin colour is due to the creativity of Julian Charrière, a Swiss artist who fed about 60 pigeoens with special food to have their skin turning blue, green or even red.

Thanks to him, Venetian people and vistors can enjoy a kind of “pigeons safari” and I had the chance to add a colourful stroke to one of my photos, which I would like to call “The bride and the blue wedding guest“!

MY FAVOURITE “PRE-WEEDING” SHOTS

Pre-wedding photography  includes photo services carried out before the wedding taking place, when the couple enjoys a photo session at special times or in a special setting.

This trend is especially appreciated by the couples who choose to hold their wedding abroad. While enjoying a tour in famous cities or enchanting environments they take the chance to have a few shots of highly  romantic moments.

Here is my favourite pre-weeding photo session:

I’m  looking forward to reading your comments on it!

PHOTO SESSIONS FOR DESTINATION WEDDINGS IN VENICE

I experienced several young couples preferring a destination wedding to traditional wedding: they get married in an “exotic” context, far away from home, sometimes with just a few guests.

The photographs shot in this cases have a more private, intimate flavor, and a special charm due to the “exotic” surroundings.

Venice is a top destination for destination weddings due to its highly romantic atmosphere and I enjoyed several casual photo sessions with brides and bridegrooms coming from different nations.

In my website www.photographervenice.com you can see some of my pictures of couples choosing Venice for their destination wedding……will your wedding be my next destination?
